Sumarblær

It has been a joy to participate in the tour Sumarblær (e. breeze of summer) with the singer and keyboardist Grétar Örvarsson. The goal is to bring popular concert program to the elderly homes, to a group of audience where many are not able to attend concerts at the big concert halls. We time it around Sumardagurinn fyrsti (e. first summer day) and celebrate start of summer with the elderly.

From our visit to Hvammur, Húsavík in 2023

The program is based on the popular concert series Sunnanvindur – eftirlætislög Örvars Kristjánssonar og Íslendinga, which Grétar has managed, produced and has SOLD OUT multiple times in Hof and Salurinn Kópavogi. It is a program which many of the residents of the elderly homes enjoy but majority of the songs came to be and grew popular when they were young. Örvar Kristjánsson was one of the best standard accordion player in Iceland in the 20th century and very popular, especially among that generation.

We have been greeted with warmth, welcomeness and gratitude at the many elderly homes we have visited in North and Southwest Iceland. These are one of the most giving gigs in my opinion and so interesting and enjoyable to enjoy a cup of coffee with the residents after the concerts and often hear stories about my grandparents. We are thankful to the companies and associations who have sponsored us in this project: Landsvirkjun, Samherji hf., Röraverksmiðjan Set ehf., Gentle Giants, GPG Seafood, Bílaleiga Akureyrar and Kvenfélagið Freyja.

Always fun to play with Grétar and learn those songs from him
